FAQ

What is this?

This is a tool for exploring patterns generated by spiral grids of alternately-placed Chess pieces. This video will probably explain things better than I can.

The gist is that you can try different combinations of chess pieces, and they will form interesting patterns on the right.

Thank you to Jonas Karlsson for the original idea and finding plenty of interesting patterns.

What do I do?

Try setting number of pieces to 3-5, and hit Randomise Settings. And if you find something interesting, try increasing the resolution.

Why are there white squares?

If a square is threatened by multiple colours, no piece can reside there and it'll be blank.

Where's a mobile-friendly version?

I dunno, feel free to steal the HTML of this page and make your own.

Why is this site so ugly?

So you know I wrote the HTML/CSS by hand.
